On this page we have provided links to software that we recommend to our clients. These packages are useful for combating spam, viruses, spyware, and other unwelcome visitors to your home or business computer.

SpamBayes - http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/

This is a freeware application that you can use in conjunction with a Microsoft Outlook e-mail client to filter out spam. It is cleverly programmed so that you train it to recognise good and bad e-mail. The SpamBayes homepage is found here and can be downloaded for free. Spambayes has distinct advantages over other anti-spam software. Many anti-spam programs do not require you to help the program distinguish between good emails and bad ones - these programs use common signatures to identity spam from real emails. Commonly, using this method, real emails will not reach you. A good example of this is using Yahoo mails anti-spam filter. We recommend you set your email account to send you ALL email and then let Spambayes do the sorting for you. Once you have installed Spambayes, you 'train' it with good and bad emails. In this way - you give it a load of real emails and a load of spams that you have received. The more good emails and the more spam emails you train it with, the better the sorting will be. To be honest, what Spambayes does equates to pure witchcraft. Once you have trained it with around 100 spams and 100 good emails, you will knwo what we mean. Spambayes is totally free, works better than any spam filter I have ever used, and is highly recommended. The only disadvantage is that you have to use it with Microsoft Outlook (it won't work with Outlook Express). Once installed it will integrate itself as a plugin into this mail program.

This is a software firewall that gives you a great deal of control over what you block or allow on your computer. Two versions are available, depending on whether you want to pay or not. Both are equally good at protecting your machine from unwanted pop-ups, Javascript, ActiveX, Visual Basic scripts, adverts, Flash and cookies, and both provide complete visibility of DNS caching, application activities and other real-time incoming/outgoing connections from your computer to the world-wide web. It is once of the best firewalls we have come across.

We recommend using this for all your virus removal needs. However, we recommend using Agnitum Outpost as your firewall as opposed to any Symantec firewall product.
